    Instructions for 1-day colonoscopy preparation with MiraLAX® for patients of Dr. Ismet Lukolic

    These instructions are for patients scheduled with a colonoscopy with Dr. Ismet Lukolic at TidalHealth Nanticoke, 801 Middleford Road, Seaford, DE.  The day of your procedure, report to the main entrance of the hospital.

    Patients are to call 302-629-6611 ext. 3824 between 2 and 3:30pm the day before their procedures confirm the time of arrival.

    Please read all instructions regarding prep for this procedure, failure to follow these instructions may result in a cancellation of the procedure.

    You must stop any blood thinners/anticoagulants for as many days as directed by your provider.

    Important notice

    Our office will be calling you two to three weeks prior to your scheduled procedure date. This is to confirm that you will continue to keep your scheduled procedure date.


    7 days before the procedure

    Do not take any iron or multi-vitamins that may contain iron.

    Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Celebrex, Advil, Aleve, or Naprosyn, as well as any medications containing the above medications mentioned. Over-the counter Tylenol only may be taken for headaches or pain.


    5 days before your procedure

    Avoid eating corn, beans, nuts, salad or green leafy vegetables. Examples of green leafy veggies include: lettuce, collard greens, spinach and cabbage.      


    The day before your procedure

    You may only have clear liquids.

    Do not drink or eat anything that is red, purple or dark blue. Red, purple or dark blue food coloring may leave a residue in the colon that can resemble blood. Keep this in mind when buying Juice, Jell-O, popsicles and hard candy.

    Clear liquid diet

    Beverages

    • Water
    • Coffee or tea (no milk or non-dairy creamers)
    • Fruit juice (no pulp)        
    • Kool-Aid
    • Sports drinks
    • Sodas   

    Clear broth

    • Chicken
    • Beef
    • Vegetable          

    Desserts                                                                                                                                                  

    • Jell-O (no fruit or toppings)
    • Popsicles (no sherbets, fruit bars or fudge popsicles)
    • Hard candy
    1 Day MiraLAX® Gatorade prep

    If your insurance does not cover the cost of your prescription, MiraLAX® and Dulcolax can be purchased over the counter.

    What you will need:

    • (1) Bottle (238 g) of MiraLAX®
    • (6) Dulcolax tablets
    • (2) Bottles (32 oz. each) of Gatorade (total of 64 oz.) No red, purple or dark blue.

    The day before your procedure

    8 am - Pour both Gatorade bottles into a pitcher and the whole bottle of MiraLAX®, stir until dissolved and refrigerate until use.

    9 am - Start drinking your prep, 8 oz. every 30 minutes until you have finished the prep. Finish prep prior to midnight.

    1 pm - Take (3) Dulcolax tablets.

    5 pm – Take (3) Dulcolax tablets.

    Remember that you may have anything on the clear liquid diet list in between drinking your preparation.

    Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.


    The morning of your procedure:

    Do not take any insulin or diabetic medication the morning of the procedure. Please take them with you to the hospital.

    Take your heart or blood pressure medicine with a small sip of water.

    You must have an adult (18 years of age or older) present to take you home the day of your procedure. You will be unable to drive after being sedated.

    If you have any questions or need to cancel your procedure: Please call the office at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment time, at 302-297-2506 ask to speak to your provider's medical assistant. If you need to cancel the day of your procedure, please call the GI unit at the hospital 302- 629-6611 ext. 3557, Monday - Friday, 6:30 am to 4 pm.
