Instructions for 2-day colonoscopy preparation with SUTAB for patients of TidalHealth Gastroenterology in Seaford
These instructions are for patients scheduled with a colonoscopy at TidalHealth Nanticoke, 801 Middleford Road, Seaford, DE. The day of your procedure, report to the main entrance of the hospital.
Patients are to call 302-629-6611 ext. 3824 between 2 and 3:30pm the day before their procedures confirm the time of arrival.
Please read all instructions regarding prep for this procedure, failure to follow these instructions may result in a cancellation of the procedure.
You must stop any blood thinners/anticoagulants for as many days as directed by your provider.
Our office will be calling you two to three weeks prior to your scheduled procedure date. This is to confirm that you will continue to keep your scheduled procedure date.
7 days before the procedure
Do not take any iron or multi-vitamins that may contain iron.
Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Celebrex, Advil, Aleve, or Naprosyn, as well as any medications containing the above medications mentioned. Over-the counter Tylenol only may be taken for headaches or pain.
5 days before your procedure
Avoid eating corn, beans, nuts, salad or green leafy vegetables. Examples of green leafy veggies include: lettuce, collard greens, spinach and cabbage.
SUTAB is a split dose (2 day) regimen. A total of 24 tablets is required for complete preparation for a colonoscopy. You will take the tablets in 2 doses of 12 tablets each. Water must be consumed with each dose of SUTAB, and additional water must be consumed after each dose.
2 days before your procedure
Dose 1 - 5 pm
- Open 1 bottle of 12 tablets.
- Fill the provided container with 16 oz. of water (up to the fill line). Swallow each tablet with a sip of water and drink the entire amount of water over 15 to 20 minutes.
- Approximately 1 hour after the last tablet is ingested, fill the provided container again with 16 oz. of water (up to the fill line) and drink the entire amount over 30 minutes.
- Approximately 30 minutes after finishing the second container of water, fill the provided container again with 16 oz. of water (up to the fill line) and drink the entire amount over 30 minutes.
The day before your procedure
Dose 2 - 5 pm
- Repeat steps 1 to 4 again from dose 1.
Do not drink or eat anything that is red, purple or dark blue. Red, purple or dark blue food coloring may leave a residue in the colon that can resemble blood. Keep this in mind when buying Juice, Jell-O, popsicles and hard candy.

The morning of your procedure:
Do not take any insulin or diabetic medication the morning of the procedure. Please take them with you to the hospital.
Take your heart or blood pressure medicine with a small sip of water.
You must have an adult (18 years of age or older) present to take you home the day of your procedure. You will be unable to drive after being sedated.

If you need to cancel the day of your procedure, please call the GI unit at the hospital 302- 629-6611 ext. 3557, Monday - Friday, 6:30 am to 4 pm.
