Biswajit Ghosh, MD graduated from NRS Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, India in 1992. Dr. Ghosh completed his internship, a housestaffship in cardiology, and a diploma in anesthesiology at NRS Medical College. He furthered his medical journey by joining the anesthesia residency at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 2002.
During his year of preliminary surgical training at the Brookdale Hospital, he was selected as Surgical Resident of the Year. In 2005, he delivered an oral presentation on the efficacy of ketorolac in laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery patients at the annual meeting of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery in Orlando, Fla. Dr. Ghosh served as one of the principal investigators in this study, which was subsequently published in Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases in the same year.
During his fellowship in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Mass., Dr. Ghosh authored a book chapter on off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting. In 2007, Dr. Ghosh joined the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center as a clinical assistant professor in anesthesia. During his tenure, he actively contributed to residency education and training, mentoring numerous residents, medical students, and student nurse anesthetists. He conducted written and oral board review courses, mock orals, and assisted residents in clinical research and presentations.
In recognition of his commitment to safe patient care, he received a certificate of appreciation from the Department of Perioperative Services, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, N.Y., in 2008. Transitioning to TidalHealth as an attending anesthesiologist in 2010, Dr. Ghosh assumed the role of Director of Cardiac Anesthesia in 2021. He took the leading role in a project aimed at preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in cardiac surgical patients in the ICU during 2013-2015, resulting in a significant reduction in incidence of VAP. He played a pivotal role in designing and launching EPIC EMR in anesthesia in 2015 and has been deeply involved in TidalHealth’s structural heart and vascular program, conducting anesthesia in all pilot cases for TAVR, Watchmen, TEER/Mitraclip and TCAR.
Presently, he is working on a project aimed at reducing the extubation time of elective coronary artery bypass grafting patients in the Intensive Care Unit.
