Our program aims
Welcome to TidalHealth Transitional Year Residency! We appreciate your interest in joining us to begin your residency journey. Our Salisbury hospital, with roots dating back to 1897 as Peninsula General Hospital, proudly transitioned to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in 2020. The health system is well-known and has been recognized with national awards for clinical excellence.
We recruit six Transitional Year residents each year for our program. We have a program director and a program coordinator. We have additional faculty members who are experienced physicians dedicated to patient care and medical education.
Aligning with the goals of TidalHealth Transitional Year Residency, the program aims are to:
- Provide a comprehensive education through a diverse range of rotational and didactic curricula, including exposure to ambulatory medicine, emergency medicine, general surgery, internal medicine and intensive care, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
- Cultivate and sustain a culture of professional success by offering residents and faculty the necessary resources to thrive as effective healthcare providers.
- Foster a diverse community for residents, faculty members and patients to expose residents to a variety of healthcare teams and settings, ensuring comprehensive clinical experiences.
- Provide residents with opportunities in scholarly activity and quality improvement endeavors that contribute to the enhancement of foundational medical knowledge and to promote a culture of continuous improvement for residents and faculty.
- Promote well-being and self-care behaviors among residents, providing them with the necessary tools to prioritize and maintain their personal well-being throughout their careers in medicine.
- Prepare residents for the next stage of their training by ensuring they possess a comprehensive skill set, including competence in the utilization of technology and an understanding of quality and patient safety principles.
