Overview
To ensure a comprehensive and effective training experience, our program includes detailed evaluation procedures, formal grievance protocols, and opportunities for fellows to assess and provide feedback on their training journey.
Evaluation procedures
Upon commencement of the program year, fellows will take part in a pre-evaluation to determine current competencies and goals for the year, and to develop an individually tailored training experience. The fellow will be expected to meet the competencies detailed above by the end of the program year. The director of postdoctoral training will complete formal written evaluations of each fellow on a quarterly basis to assess the progress of these competencies.
Quarterly evaluations will also be used to assess progress regarding personal goals and to identify areas for growth. If areas of weakness are identified or should a fellow not be on track to meet the required competencies, a remediation plan may be created to foster their success and growth. If a fellow’s performance continues to be unsatisfactory, a formal meeting may be held with the director of postdoctoral training to develop a more formal program plan. Further challenges may result in due process policies being implemented.
Due process and grievance procedures
It is always best for fellows and staff to resolve conflicts internally. However, if this is not possible, formal due process and grievance procedures are offered to facilitate such conflicts. These documents can be requested and are also located in the training manual and discussed with fellows at the commencement of fellowship training.
Program evaluation
Fellows are also afforded the opportunity to provide written evaluation of their training experience, including those with whom they are mentored/supervised. Evaluations of the core training experiences, optional rotations, didactic experiences, supervisor availability and support, and program logistics are reviewed on a regular basis throughout the year. More formal evaluations of these aspects of the program are completed at six and 12 months and submitted to the postdoctoral training director. Fellows will also offer evaluations of their direct clinical supervisor.
