Training Experiences
Fellows will receive advanced training in comprehensive assessment, consultation, empirically supported treatment modalities, case management, care coordination, working as part of a multidisciplinary team and offering supervision. Clinical experiences will take place across several settings, including two different outpatient clinics, a crisis center, the emergency department, inpatient and partial hospitalization programs. More specialized settings are available as optional experiences including maternal and infant health, substance abuse/co-occurring treatment centers and primary care.
Accepted fellows are expected to have experience in comprehensive assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment planning. Prior experience in working in a hospital or acute-care setting as well as with individuals impacted by trauma is preferred. An individualized training program will be created to meet the goals of each fellow while also satisfying postdoctoral requirements and preparing the fellow to sit for licensure. Additional support is offered for those interested in pursuing board certification. Fellows will complete one full year of mental and behavioral health consultation with an emphasis on assessment to inform treatment planning and communication with a multidisciplinary team of providers and allied professionals within the community. Additional clinical services include individual, group and family therapy utilizing a variety of empirically supported treatment modalities (CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, ACT, Play Therapy, Family Therapy, EMDR). Advanced training in specialized modalities is offered based upon the interests of each fellow.
Our consortium offers a wide range of experiences for professionals interested in working with children and/or adults. This is a generalist training model with the ability to tailor experiences to specific populations, allowing fellows to hone their skills with children and adults or focus more specifically on one population. Upon the development of an individualized training program, fellows and the training director will finalize a rotation schedule to maximize the fellow’s engagement in preferred experiences while also meeting the expectations laid out by the core competencies.
