The TidalHealth Foundation thanks the Eastern Shore of Maryland Sickle Cell Disease Association, Megan Stafford of 3 East Oncology at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, and Joy Ault of Salisbury for supporting Brooke’s Toy Closet in June 2024.
Each of our June donations has a unique backstory! The Eastern Shore of Maryland Sickle Cell Disease Association hosted a golf tournament in June to benefit Brooke’s Toy Closet. Megan Stafford, a nurse from the 3 East Oncology unit at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, donated her collection of Squishmallows which were all brand new with tags! Last but not least, Joy Ault, a young Salisbury resident, requested donations for Brooke’s Toy Closet instead of gifts for her birthday this year after being in the hospital and visiting Brooke’s Toy Closet herself.
Brooke’s Toy Closet is a program at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional and TidalHealth Nanticoke that provides new toys to children in the Emergency Department and Pediatric Units that the children get to keep and take home upon discharge.
The program was named in honor of Brooke Mulford, a young girl who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive form of cancer, in 2009 at the tender age of 4 years old. After a valiant battle, she passed away in June 2017. Brooke had a vision to give toys to kids in the hospital to make their time there a little easier, and that vision is what sparked the creation of Brooke's Toy Closet.
