In July, Willowbrook hosted a car show, Wheels at Willowbrook, in memory of local car enthusiast Steve Drummond. The event raised $752 and Willowbrook contributed the remaining amount to bring the donation to $1000.
Steve’s wife, Kathy, is a cancer survivor and wanted to donate the event proceeds to a local cause. After hearing about TidalHealth’s new initiative, the Drive for Mobile Mammography, she thought it would be a perfect fit.
The Drive for Mobile Mammography is a fundraising campaign to launch the region’s only mobile mammogram unit, bringing life-saving breast cancer screening services and earlier detection directly to communities — even the doorsteps — of people who need it the most.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, but if found early, the five-year survival rate is 99%. However, many women on Delmarva miss their regular screenings because of financial and transportation restrictions and a lack of care nearby.
TidalHealth hopes to have the mobile unit on the road by 2026. It will travel to Sussex County, Delaware, and Worcester, Wicomico, and Somerset Counties in Maryland visiting neighborhoods, workplaces and community centers to provide high-quality mammograms and educational resources in a convenient and comfortable setting.
The TidalHealth Foundation extends a heartfelt thank you to Willowbrook and the Drummond family for their generosity and support. To learn more about the Drive for Mobile Mammography and to contribute, visit the TidalHealth Foundation's web page or call the TidalHealth Foundation at 410-543-7140.
