Introducing the TidalHealth Sussex Central Campus
Transforming care. Expanding access. Strengthening communities.
For nearly 130 years, TidalHealth has cared for the people of Delmarva. Since Dr. George Todd first began caring for families across the region in 1897, our commitment has remained the same: improving the health of the communities we serve.
Today, healthcare is changing — and so are the needs of our community.
The future of healthcare is about helping people stay healthy, managing chronic disease earlier, improving access to physicians and specialists and delivering the right care in the right place at the right time.
That is the vision behind the TidalHealth Sussex Central Campus.
This integrated healthcare campus is designed to bring together the services people need most — close to home, coordinated around the patient and focused on prevention, wellness, access and long-term community health.
“The TidalHealth Sussex Central Campus represents the next chapter in our commitment to Sussex County and all of Delmarva,” said Steve Leonard, Ph.D., MBA, FACHE, president and CEO of TidalHealth. “Healthcare today must be more accessible, more connected and focused on keeping people healthy. This campus is designed to meet the needs of our growing community while ensuring patients can receive high-quality care close to where they live and work.”
A new model for community health
The TidalHealth Sussex Central Campus will create a comprehensive ambulatory healthcare destination designed around convenience, coordination and prevention. The campus is planned to bring together a broad range of services, including:
- Primary and specialty care
- Advanced imaging
- Ambulatory surgery
- Laboratory and rehabilitation services
- Cardiology and orthopedic care
- Wellness and preventive programs
- Graduate medical education
Integrating these services in one location makes healthcare more accessible, coordinated and patient-centered while supporting the long-term health needs of the growing Sussex County community.
Meeting a growing need
Millsboro, Georgetown and central Sussex County are among the fastest-growing areas in Delaware. As the population grows and ages, demand for healthcare services continues to rise.
Our community deserves healthcare infrastructure built for the future — not just more hospital beds, but more access, more prevention, more coordination and more opportunities to keep people well.
The TidalHealth Sussex Central Campus is an investment in that future.
Helping people stay healthy
The best healthcare often happens before a hospitalization is needed.
By expanding access to primary care, specialists, diagnostics, screenings and chronic disease management, we can help identify health concerns earlier, support patients more effectively and improve long-term outcomes.
This campus is designed to make it easier for patients to get the care they need, when and where they need it.
Connected care, better outcomes
Healthcare works best when care teams are connected.
The TidalHealth Sussex Central Campus brings physicians, specialists, imaging, diagnostics and support services together in one integrated location. This coordinated approach creates a more seamless experience for patients and families and helps providers work together to deliver the right care at the right time.
“Bringing rehabilitation, respiratory care, specialty services and diagnostics together in one coordinated setting allows us to care for patients in a more unified way,” said Jill Stone, PT, MPT, senior director of physical medicine and rehabilitation and respiratory care services at TidalHealth. “This level of integration improves communication across care teams, reduces delays in treatment, and helps patients move more smoothly through every stage of their recovery.”
Smarter care, greater value
Providing care in convenient outpatient settings helps reduce unnecessary healthcare spending while improving access and the patient experience.
That means better value for patients, employers, taxpayers and the healthcare system — while allowing hospitals to focus on the patients who truly need hospital-level care.
Rooted here, committed always
TidalHealth is a local, nonprofit health system committed to reinvesting in the communities we serve.
The TidalHealth Sussex Central Campus reflects our continued commitment to Sussex County — expanding access to high-quality care, supporting future growth, training the next generation of healthcare professionals and helping our community become healthier for generations to come.
“This campus reflects who we are as a health system and where healthcare is headed,” Leonard said. “We are building for the future — investing in prevention, access, innovation and education so that the Sussex County community can continue to receive exceptional care for generations to come.”
