Physician Overview
Kofi Kessey, MD, PhD, FAANS, received his Ph.D. in neuroscience and biomedical engineering from Northwestern University in Northwestern, Ill., and his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, Ill. He completed his general surgery and neurosurgery residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and a second residency in neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif. Dr. Kessey completed his fellowship in neuroscience at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned the Howard Hughes Fellowship in Neuroscience Award.
Dr. Kessey is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He has authored several publications and has earned clinical recognitions and awards, including America’s Top Surgeons 2018; the Patients’ Choice Award, which is awarded to 5 percent of active physicians nationally; On-Time Doctor Award; and a Compassionate Doctor Recognition.
Dr. Kessey’s practice interests include neurotrauma, neurocritical care, surgical and radiosurgical treatment of brain tumors, degenerative spine disease of the cervical and lumbar spine, and adult hydrocephalus and normal pressure hydrocephalus.
