Grow With Us: Meet Shanae Jefferson

TidalHealth is proud to feature Shanae Jefferson, MSN, RN, of TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, in this month’s “Grow With Us” team member spotlight. Her journey from certified nursing assistant to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse reflects her dedication to growth, lifelong learning and elevating patient care within the organization.

Jefferson grew up in Easton, Maryland, and graduated from high school in 2010. She began her TidalHealth career in 2014 as a certified nursing assistant on 5 East at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. She later transferred to 3 East to work as a student nurse while attending nursing school. Afterward, she worked as an LPN for a year before completing her RN degree.

Jefferson now works as an RN in the ICU at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, where she is fully embracing the orientation process. She says her medical-surgical foundation has eased the knowledge overload that often comes with onboarding and new team member training.

Throughout her career, Jefferson has remained committed to being adaptable, coachable and dedicated to patient care. She credits accountability, constructive feedback and supportive guidance from leaders Lori Somers and Stephanie Robinson, as well as experienced colleagues, as key influences on her professional growth. She has also invested time in shadowing various practitioners and engaging in virtual academic seminars.

Among her accomplishments at TidalHealth, Jefferson is most proud of earning her Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in leadership and management, joining TidalHealth Peninsula Regional's ICU team, and being accepted into a Nurse Practitioner (NP) program.

She advises new team members to take their time growing into their roles, reminding them that “you have to be a tadpole before you become a frog.” She encourages them to trust themselves, use available resources, and emphasizes maintaining accountability, integrity and resilience.

Looking ahead, Jefferson aims to become a reliable, distinguished critical care nurse and preceptor, and eventually a mid-level practitioner.
