Grow with us: Meet Te'Ona Thompson

A Journey Through Care at TidalHealth

At TidalHealth, career growth is more than a pathway; it’s shaped by the people who choose to grow with us. For Te’Ona Thompson, BSN, RN, CCMA, that journey has been shaped by curiosity, compassion and a commitment to continual learning. Evolving from a scribe to a registered nurse, Thompson has continued to stay grounded in the values that define our organization.

Starting in 2016 as a scribe, Thompson’s path through roles as a medical assistant and certified nursing assistant on 5 South ultimately led to her current role as an RN. Each step along the way offered new perspectives and lessons that continue to inform her practice today.

“Each role taught me something different, but together they shaped the nurse I am today,” she shared.

Early in her career, Thompson developed a strong foundation in teamwork, empathy and consistency, principles that remain central to how she approaches patient care and supports her colleagues. Having experienced care from multiple vantage points has also given her a deeper appreciation for how every role contributes to patient outcomes.

Her decision to continue to grow within healthcare was influenced not only by professional experience but also by personal connection. With family members in the medical field and early caregiving experiences with her grandmother, she witnessed firsthand the impact that compassionate, skilled care can have. That perspective helped shape her desire to deepen her clinical knowledge and expand her ability to advocate for patients.

“As I gained experience, I realized I wanted a deeper clinical understanding and a greater ability to advocate for my patients,” she explained.

Encouragement from leaders and coworkers played a key role in helping her take the next step in her education, reinforcing the belief that growth was not only possible but supported.

When reflecting on what has kept her at TidalHealth, the answer is clear: the people.

“There’s a genuine sense of teamwork here, and I’ve always felt supported in my professional development,” she shared. “Feeling seen, encouraged and challenged in positive ways has made TidalHealth feel like more than just a workplace; it feels like a community.”

Throughout her journey, moments of support from colleagues and leaders have made a lasting impact. Whether it was schedule flexibility to accommodate school, guidance from peers, or simple check-ins during demanding times, those gestures created a strong foundation of encouragement. That support extended to meaningful milestones as well, including attending her graduation alongside fellow team members and practitioners who celebrated the achievement with her.

For those early in their careers, her advice is simple but powerful: take advantage of the opportunities available and remain open to growth. Asking questions, seeking mentorship and believing in one’s potential are key steps in building a meaningful career.

“TidalHealth offers real pathways to build a long-term career if you’re willing to put in the work and stay open to learning,” she said.

As she looks ahead, her gratitude for the journey so far is evident. Her story reflects not only personal perseverance but also the strength of a workplace culture rooted in support, development and shared purpose.

“I’m grateful to be part of a team that values growth, compassion and excellence in care,” she shared. “I’m proud to be part of this community and excited for what’s ahead.”
