Salisbury DAISY Awardee: October 2026
TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is pleased to announce that Kayla Battle, RN, has been selected as the DAISY Award recipient for October 2026.
Battle was nominated by a patient for her exceptional care and interpersonal skills. The patient was cared for during multiple of Battle's shifts, and the patient appreciated her ability to maintain genuine eye contact and speak in a personal tone of voice, while also staying professional during every encounter. Battle established a special connection with the patient through trust and emotional support during their hospital stay, and Battle's patient praised her accomplishment of working as an RN at only 21 years old:
“Over [the] many conversations that followed, I was impressed with her understanding of life at her very young age. I looked forward to talking to her on each of her shifts. It lifted me up.”
Battle was honored in a ceremony before her coworkers and presented with a hand-carved statue, a pin, fresh flowers and a certificate recognizing her exceptional devotion to team and patient care.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at age 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease.
The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who demonstrate extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care. To nominate a TidalHealth registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN) for this award, visit our DAISY Award Nomination Form.
