Seaford DAISY Awardee: May 2026
TidalHealth Nanticoke is pleased to announce that the Progressive Care Unit team has received a team DAISY award for May, 2026.
This team was nominated for their dedication and compassionate, patient-centered care:
“In October 2025, what began as a routine admission on PCU quickly turned into something none of us will ever forget.
A kind, soft-spoken gentleman was admitted with unexpected health concerns. As the team worked through his intake, they learned something that stopped everyone in their tracks-he and his significant other were supposed to be married the following week. Instead of finalizing wedding details, they were now facing the reality of postponing one of the most important days of their lives. You could feel the disappointment in the room.
And that's when the magic of the PCU team kicked in.
Without hesitation-and maybe just a little bit of "wink wink" determination-RoNisha, Courtney, Hilary, and Judy decided postponing simply wasn't an option. If the patient couldn't go to the wedding ... the wedding would come to him.
Calls were made. Plans were set in motion. The team rallied support from ANS, administration, and our chaplain, turning what seemed impossible into something very real. When the couple realized they wouldn't have to give up their special day, the joy was immediate and contagious.
What followed was nothing short of extraordinary.
The PCU transformed into a wedding venue. Staff coordinated everything-from decorations and cupcakes to sparkling cider and elegant (well... hospital-elegant!) flute glasses. The room and hallway were lovingly decorated, and Ms. Mary even brought in rose petals from her own wedding, adding a deeply personal and touching detail to the day.
Our amazing CSTs made sure the patient was dressed, groomed, and in his "throne," ready to be the king to his girls. Every detail mattered, and it showed.
On the day of the ceremony, it truly was all hands on deck. Between patient care, call lights, and the usual fast-paced demands of the unit, this team somehow created a moment of pure peace, joy, and celebration for this couple.
For a little while, monitors, medications, and medical worries took a back seat to love, laughter, and the beginning of a new chapter. And yes, we even had our "official crier" (Nicole & Maddie) ... just kidding. Truthfully, we all had something in our eyes as the couple exchanged their vows.
This is what the DAISY Award is all about.
The PCU team didn't just care for a patient-they cared for his life, his story, and his heart. They saw beyond the diagnosis and recognized a once-in-a-lifetime moment that deserved to be protected and celebrated.
Through compassion, teamwork, creativity, and just the right amount of rule-bending spirit, they gave this couple a wedding day they will never forget.
And honestly ... not many hospital units can say they successfully pulled off a wedding between med passes.
For their extraordinary compassion and commitment to human connection, the PCU staff are more than deserving of the Team DAISY Award.”
This team was honored with the DAISY Award in a ceremony before their colleagues. They received a certificate commending them for being extraordinary nurses, and a sculpture called “A Healer's Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at age 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease.
The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
