Seaford DAISY Awardee: November 2025

TidalHealth Nanticoke is pleased to announce that Hilary Cooper, MSN, RN, of the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), has been selected as its DAISY Award recipient for November 2025.

Cooper was nominated by the family of a recent patient for providing compassionate patient-centered care and service:

“Our family had the privilege to meet Hilary when caring for our father. From initial interaction to the end of her shift on Sunday, Hilary was attentive, compassionate and genuine.

When Dad ultimately decided that he was ready to transition to comfort care, Hilary broke everything down so that we all understood what that all meant. She focused on his decisions and choices to ensure he received exactly what he wanted and deserved — a peaceful, comfortable transition during the dying process. She also made sure that he understood what that meant for my brother and me to sit by his side during that time.

We are eternally grateful for Hilary and her ability to advocate for our father and provide the care he requested on his terms.

For myself, being in healthcare for over 25 years, my philosophy is ‘to approach, treat and care for each patient as if they were family.’ Hilary exemplified this throughout the time she cared for our father.

Although death and dying are difficult, my brother and I could not have asked for better circumstances and nursing staff, such as Hilary, while our father was under the PCU's care.”

Cooper was honored with the DAISY Award in a ceremony before her colleagues. She received certificates commending her for being an extraordinary nurse, and a sculpture called “A Healer's Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at age 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease.

The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
