TidalHealth Nanticoke Sunshine Awardee: May 2026

TidalHealth Nanticoke is pleased to announce that Mary Holston, Unit Secretary for the Progressive Care Unit, has been selected as its Sunshine Award recipient for May 2026.

Holston was nominated by a co-worker for her compassion, empathy, dedication, and generosity:

"Mary is the epitome of ‘Sunshine.’ She greets everyone who enters the unit with a warm smile and a bright, welcoming, ‘Hi, how can I help you?’ Her positive energy is felt by staff, patients, and visitors alike, creating an uplifting and supportive environment.

She consistently works to ensure that staff feel supported and cared for, often sharing that her 'penguin score' is always a 5, so she can be a happy and reliable resource for the team. While she is kind and approachable, she also helps keep the unit running smoothly by holding others accountable, whether it’s preventing waste, avoiding over-ordering, or gently reminding staff to maintain a respectful noise level at the nurses’ station.

Mary takes her role as Safety Officer seriously and demonstrates this through her attention to detail and commitment to the unit’s environment. She ensures that each patient room is properly equipped, submits tickets promptly for any malfunctioning equipment, and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with the facilities team to resolve issues efficiently.

What truly sets Mary apart is how she treats everyone she encounters. From EVS staff to hospital leadership, she approaches each person with the same level of kindness, respect, and genuine care. She embraces change with a positive attitude, viewing it as an opportunity to improve the unit and support the greater good.

Mary’s consistent positivity, accountability, and dedication to both people and process make her truly deserving of the Sunshine Award."

Holston was honored in a ceremony before her coworkers and presented with fresh flowers, a pin, and a certificate recognizing her exceptional devotion to team and patient care.
