TidalHealth operations restored after system outage
TidalHealth systems are fully back online following an IT outage on Aug. 13. All TidalHealth locations, including TidalHealth Primary and Specialty Care offices across the region, resumed normal operations on Friday, Aug. 14.
The outage, which impacted the internet and phone systems as well as Epic MyChart and the tidalhealth.org website, was caused by a sprinkler pipe that was struck during construction of the observation unit at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. It also caused localized facility impacts at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, including disruptions to air-handling systems supporting the operating rooms. This service disruption affected all TidalHealth facilities, including TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, TidalHealth Nanticoke, TidalHealth Atlantic, TidalHealth McCready Pavilion and all TidalHealth Primary & Specialty Care locations.
Patient care continued throughout the outage and TidalHealth is not aware of any patients that were diverted following brief divert statuses at the main campuses. Backup procedures were put in place across the system to continue delivering care to patients. Wicomico County 911 provided radios to the TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Emergency department to support communications during the outage and to amplify coordination with emergency medical services.
Operations, IT, and other support teams worked through the day to restore services and work will continue through the night as TidalHealth returns to normal operations.
All TidalHealth outpatient appointments were canceled today, August 13. Patients with scheduled appointments on Aug. 14 should plan to arrive as scheduled unless they are contacted directly by their healthcare practitioner’s office.
