Richard Kang

Richard Kang, MD, FAAOS, cares for patients with a wide range of hand, wrist and upper-extremity conditions at TidalHealth Peninsula Orthopaedic Institute. He specializes in orthopedic surgery of the hand and upper extremity, treating conditions ranging from fractures and arthritis to nerve compression, tendon injuries and complex traumatic injuries.

With more than 25 years of experience in hand surgery, Dr. Kang combines specialized expertise with a strong commitment to patient education. He takes time to explain each diagnosis, including the underlying cause, so patients understand both what is happening and why.

Dr. Kang discusses appropriate nonsurgical and surgical treatment options, along with the potential benefits and risks of each. His goal is to help patients make informed decisions with confidence and receive care tailored to their individual needs and goals.

Dr. Kang believes patient education is the foundation of exceptional care. He wants every patient to leave with a clear understanding of their condition, available treatment options and the possible outcomes of each approach.

Outside of his work

Dr. Kang continues to enjoy working with patients and helping them understand both common and complex hand conditions. He is drawn to hand surgery because of the hand’s unique complexity, which requires expertise in the skin, tendons, ligaments, nerves, muscles, bones and joints.

Outside of work, Dr. Kang’s priorities are his family, his profession and competitive pistol shooting.
