Robert “Rob” Dawson, PT, MPT, ATC-R, CSCS, is Director of Physical Therapy at TidalHealth Peninsula Orthopaedic Institute. With more than 30 years of experience in sports medicine and rehabilitation, he specializes in helping athletes and active individuals recover from injury and safely return to their highest level of performance.
Dawson has advanced expertise in treating overhead athletes and is a mentor in ACL rehabilitation and performance training. He also plays a key role in the institute’s Return to Play and Transition to Play protocols for athletes across the region.
His approach is centered on personalized return-to-performance care for patients of all ages, guiding them through each stage of recovery to restore function, improve performance and support long-term health.
Care philosophy
Dawson believes successful rehabilitation should be individualized, performance-driven and focused on the patient’s specific goals. He meets patients where they are in their recovery and develops progressive treatment plans designed to restore movement quality, build strength and safely prepare them for the demands of their sport or activity.
He also believes strongly in a collaborative, team-based approach. Dawson works closely with physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers and coaches to provide coordinated care and a seamless transition from rehabilitation back to participation.
Through clear communication, education and shared goal setting, he helps patients understand their recovery process and remain actively engaged throughout it. His goal is to help every patient recover, restore function and perform with confidence.
Outside of his work
Outside of work, Dawson enjoys working out and spending time outdoors with his family.
