Dr. Cope received his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He later completed his residency in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Dr. Cope is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, and Berks County Medical Society.
In his more than two decades of practice, Dr. Cope has performed over 5,000 heart operations. He comes with a wealth of clinical and research experience and has authored an impressive number of publications. He has a military background in the United States Air Force, and his special interests include mechanical cardiac support, minimally invasive valve surgery, all-arterial coronary artery bypass, atrial fibrillation surgery, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). In his free time, he enjoys marathon running, playing and performing percussion, and spending time at the Maryland and Delaware seashores with his family.
