Radiation Oncology

Our compassionate radiation oncology team uses advanced technology and a patient-focused approach to carefully target and treat cancer, supporting you and your family through every step of care.

When you are diagnosed with cancer, being close to home matters. Less travel means less stress and can lead to better outcomes. At TidalHealth, our patients have access to advanced cancer care options, including both medical and radiation oncology services. Our team takes a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together specialists to create an individualized plan for each patient. From initial diagnosis to ongoing follow-up, we provide comprehensive and compassionate cancer care for you and your family.

What is Radiation Oncology?

Radiation oncology, sometimes called radiotherapy or radiation therapy, uses high-energy rays to stop cancer cells from dividing or growing. Each person’s treatment is unique, with the intensity and dose of radiation tailored specifically to their needs and the type of cancer.

Radiation oncologists at TidalHealth work closely with our cancer care team, including medical oncologists, to recommend the most appropriate treatment and develop each patient's care plan. Our caring providers focus on ensuring you have a comfortable and calm experience during treatment. Patients and their loved ones also have access to a nurse navigator and care coordinator, who guide them through the healthcare system and connect them with support services throughout treatment.

Advanced Technology

TidalHealth’s radiation oncology services feature some of the latest technology in cancer care, including:

  • Intensity-modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
  • The TrueBeam system, offering modern treatment techniques such as SBRT, SRS, RapidArc, and Gated RapidArc

We are among the first centers in the United States to offer this advanced technology to our patients.

Compassionate, Team-Based Care

Our approach is built on teamwork, clear communication, and compassion. Specialists from across cancer disciplines collaborate to ensure each patient’s care is thorough and personal. We know that cancer care is about more than just technology—it’s about providing support, understanding, and attention to each person’s overall well-being.

TidalHealth is proud that our cancer programs, including radiation oncology, have been recognized for their commitment to high quality and comprehensive care. The TidalHealth Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute has been accredited by the American College of Surgeons as a comprehensive community cancer center since 1970. In addition, TidalHealth Allen Cancer Center holds accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and is a member of the Association of Community Cancer Centers. These distinctions reflect our dedication to meeting rigorous standards and providing outstanding support for our patients and their families.
