Common Sleep Disorders
Sleep disorders can affect people of all ages and backgrounds. Recognizing the different types can help you understand what might be disrupting your rest.
TidalHealth’s specialists are experienced in diagnosing and caring for a variety of sleep issues, including:
- Sleep Apnea: This condition causes you to stop breathing while sleeping. It happens when the muscles in your throat relax, blocking your airway. Symptoms include loud snoring, gasping or choking sounds, restless sleep and frequent waking. Risk factors can include being overweight, smoking, excessive alcohol use, frequent use of sleep aids and a family history of sleep apnea.
- Insomnia: Trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep throughout the night. This can leave you feeling tired and unrested during the day.
- Restless Legs Syndrome: A strong urge to move your legs or body at night, making it hard to fall or stay asleep.
- Narcolepsy: Uncontrollable episodes of falling asleep during the daytime, often called sleep attacks.
If you have symptoms that could be related to a sleep disorder, our team at TidalHealth can help you find answers and support you with a care plan that meets your needs.
Common Sleep Issues in Children
Children can face sleep problems just like adults. Healthy sleep is especially important for children’s growth, learning and overall well-being. TidalHealth understands how a child’s sleep issues can affect the whole family, and our team is here to help you find solutions.
- Sleep Onset Association: When a child wakes up during the night and cannot fall back asleep without certain conditions or help.
- Limit Setting Sleep Problems: When children delay bedtime or resist sleep by asking for more stories, drinks or attention.
- Inadequate Sleep Hygiene: Difficulty sleeping caused by irregular routines or poor bedtime habits.
- Insufficient Sleep Syndrome: When a child simply does not get enough total sleep for their age.
- Rhythmic Movement Disorders: Repetitive movements, like body rocking, that can come from not getting enough sleep.
If your child is struggling with sleep, our specialists at TidalHealth can offer guidance and care, helping your family get the rest you need.
Sleep Studies at TidalHealth
When ongoing sleep problems affect your life, a sleep study can help find answers. At TidalHealth, our team offers safe and thorough sleep studies to help diagnose issues like sleep apnea, insomnia, restless legs syndrome and other disorders.
To get started, you will need a referral from your healthcare practitioner. After the referral is received, our staff will contact you to schedule your sleep study. The center is open seven nights a week, making it easier to find a time that fits your schedule. We also offer daytime sleep study options for shift workers, and our team is happy to make accommodations for special needs whenever possible.
During your sleep study, our specialists monitor your sleep patterns using specialized testing, which helps us understand what might be causing your symptoms. After the study, our team reviews your results and works closely with you to design a treatment plan that supports better rest and overall health.
If you or a loved one is struggling with sleep, a sleep study at TidalHealth can be an important step toward getting the care and support you deserve.
