Medical Imaging
At TidalHealth, we are proud of the high quality of care provided by our skilled laboratory staff and board-certified radiologists. Our medical imaging services help patients and their providers get the information needed to make important health decisions, using safe and advanced technology in a comfortable, supportive setting.
Our Imaging Services
Bone Density (DEXA): A noninvasive scan that measures bone strength and checks for osteoporosis or fracture risk. Bone density scans are available for people of all ages, including children.
CT Scan: Uses X-rays to create detailed images inside the body. Our technology provides faster scans and lower radiation doses, with options designed for patients of different sizes. Special CT scans, like spiral CT and coronary calcium scoring, help detect disease early and assess heart health.
Interventional Radiology: Minimally invasive treatments performed by specially trained doctors who use imaging guidance during procedures.
Mammography: An X-ray exam of the breast to detect early signs of breast cancer. We offer 3D mammography, which uses gentle compression, lower doses, and quick exams for a more comfortable experience.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Uses a magnetic field and radio waves to take detailed pictures of organs and tissues. MRI helps diagnose many health concerns, from joint injuries to stroke and cancer.
Nuclear Medicine: Involves small amounts of radiotracers to help see organ function and structures, often detecting disease in its early stages.
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Scan: A type of nuclear medicine imaging that shows how the body’s cells are working. PET scans help diagnose cancer, heart disease, and brain disorders and are often used with CT or MRI scans.
Ultrasound: Uses sound waves to create images of the inside of the body. Ultrasounds are commonly used during pregnancy and for checking organs such as the abdomen, thyroid, and breast. Most ultrasounds are quick, comfortable, and do not use radiation.
X-ray: A simple, fast test that creates pictures of structures inside the body, often used to look at bones.

How do I prepare for my imaging appointment?
Preparation depends on the type of test. You may need to remove clothing and jewelry in the area being examined. Please follow any instructions provided before your appointment.
What should I expect during an ultrasound?
Most ultrasounds are simple, quick, and painless. You usually lie on an exam table while a technologist applies a water-based gel and moves a small device called a transducer over your skin to capture images. Afterward, you can return to normal activities.
How will I get my results?
A TidalHealth radiologist reviews and interprets the images, then sends a report to your referring provider. Your provider will discuss the results with you. In some cases, the radiologist may speak with you directly after your exam.
Is medical imaging safe?
TidalHealth takes every precaution to use imaging safely, including using the lowest radiation dose needed. Our technology is designed with your safety and comfort in mind, and noninvasive options are offered whenever possible.
