Steve Leonard, Ph.D., MBA, FACHE, TidalHealth President/CEO, has announced the appointment of Danielle Giddins, MD, to the position of Chief Wellness Officer for the health system. In her new role, Dr. Giddins assumes the lead for the promotion and support of the overall health and well-being of all TidalHealth team members, including its medical staff and healthcare professionals.
“Dr. Giddins is an outstanding family medicine provider who has always had a very keen interest in the overall wellness of her patients from exercise, to their diet and those hereditary and social determinants of health that affect people,” said Dr. Leonard. “She’s a natural choice to share those talents internally with our team to ensure we are the healthiest organization we can be.”
The Chief Wellness Officer is responsible for evaluating the current culture, identifying workplace opportunities and programs and designing an organization-wide strategy to increase the personal and professional health and wellness of team members. A key goal is to help reduce burnout and increase professional fulfillment of healthcare providers.
“I am passionate about the well-being of both my patients, my fellow providers, and our entire healthcare workforce. The pandemic has brought to the forefront the challenges of a career in medicine and many, in their dedication to their work, have not taken the time for self-care,” added Dr. Giddins. “My goal is to help build and integrate a foundation of wellness into our health system in collaboration with the many other dedicated leaders. This will ultimately lead to better engagement, more personal fulfillment, and ensure a healthy team to care for our community.”
Dr. Giddins has been a member of the TidalHealth healthcare family since 2008 and is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, and completed both an internship and a residency in Family Medicine at Malcolm Grow Medical Center at the Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. She is also a United States Air Force Veteran.
Dr. Giddins, along with her role as Chief Wellness Officer, will continue seeing patients at TidalHealth Primary Care in Millsboro, Del.
