Matthew K. Folstein, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon who provides comprehensive care at TidalHealth General Surgery in Berlin, Maryland. A da Vinci-certified robotic surgeon, Dr. Folstein is committed to delivering advanced, patient-centered care using the latest surgical techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Dr. Folstein is an Eastern Shore native who graduated from Salisbury University and earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended the University of Maryland Medical Center and the renowned R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for his internship and residency, where he received extensive training in complex surgical care, and went on to complete his general surgery residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso, Texas.
With a wealth of clinical experience over 17 years, Dr. Folstein has been recognized throughout his career for academic excellence and professional achievement, including being presented with the Key to the City for compassionate and comprehensive care. He has presented extensively on robotic surgery and has authored numerous book chapters, scientific literature publications, and abstracts advancing the field of minimally invasive surgical care.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and board certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS), Dr. Folstein is certified in robotic surgery and maintains certifications in advanced trauma life support (ATLS) through the American College of Surgeons, and advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) and basic life support (BLS) through the American Heart Association.
Known for his compassionate approach and dedication to patient education, Dr. Folstein takes the time to ensure patients feel informed, comfortable, and confident throughout their surgical journey.
In his free time, Dr. Folstein enjoys spending time with his family, strength training, woodworking, and is an avid golfer.
