General Surgery

Our general surgery team offers a wide range of surgical treatments, including minimally invasive and robotic options, focusing on safety, comfort and personal care.

At TidalHealth, our general surgery team works closely with your physician to provide surgical care that is timely, personal, and focused on your comfort and recovery. We use new techniques, advanced technology, and fast-acting anesthetics to help you heal more quickly and return home sooner. Our team specializes in minimally invasive surgeries, including robotic procedures and laparoscopic approaches, which use smaller incisions. These methods can reduce pain and speed up your recovery after surgery.

We understand that coming in for surgery can feel overwhelming. Our staff is committed to making your experience as pleasant as possible. We believe kindness and a positive attitude can make a difference, and you can expect a warm, caring environment every step of the way.

Our Approach to Surgical Care
From your first visit, your physician will explain your upcoming treatment, including the risks, benefits, and alternative options. If surgery is the best path forward, your physician works with us to schedule your procedure. Before your surgery, we review your health and medical history, answer your questions, and make sure you feel comfortable and informed about what to expect.

Minimally invasive surgery, also called MIS, is used whenever possible. This approach means smaller incisions, less pain, and a quicker recovery. Our da Vinci surgical system lets us perform even complex surgeries with precision and a high level of care through very small openings. Whether your surgery is performed using standard methods or with advanced robotic assistance, you can trust that your well-being is always our focus.

Frequently Asked Questions
Many people have questions about what to expect before, during, and after surgery. Your surgeon and our team at TidalHealth are always here to answer your specific concerns. Here are some of the questions our patients ask most often:

How do I prepare for my surgery?
Your physician will explain your surgery, including any risks and benefits, when you meet in the office. Once your procedure is scheduled, you will be asked to complete a pre-anesthesia questionnaire. This helps our team understand your health needs and address any concerns or questions you may have. Please share any medical, allergy, or medication information with us, including over-the-counter options and herbal supplements.

What should I bring with me the day of my surgery?

  • Bring two forms of identification, with at least one being a photo ID
  • Bring your health insurance cards
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing for after your surgery
  • Do not bring jewelry, valuables, or large amounts of money with you

Can I eat or drink before my surgery?
Unless instructed otherwise, do not eat or drink anything after midnight before your surgery. Follow your surgeon or anesthesiologist’s instructions about taking any medicines.

Will my family be able to stay with me?
In most cases, a family member or significant other may stay with you before surgery, though we ask that you limit this to two people due to space. After surgery, our team will make sure your loved ones are updated and that you have support as you recover.

What happens after my surgery?
After your procedure, you will be observed by our caring staff, who will monitor your vital signs and help manage any pain. You will be given instructions for care at home, and our team is always available if questions arise after you leave.
