Pasquale Petrera

Pasquale Petrera, MD, FAAOS, cares for adults with hip and knee conditions at TidalHealth Peninsula Orthopaedic Institute. With more than 33 years of experience, he specializes in adult reconstruction of the hip and knee, including minimally invasive partial knee replacement, robotic-assisted total knee replacement and anterior hip replacement.

Dr. Petrera was a pioneer in bringing minimally invasive anterior hip replacement performed on a standard operating room table to the Delmarva region. He continues to teach and speak nationally about the procedure. He sees patients in Salisbury, Ocean Pines and Millsboro.

Dr. Petrera values building lasting relationships with his patients. He takes time to get to know them personally, understand the activities they enjoy and learn what matters most to them. After more than three decades in practice, many of his patients have become friends.

Care philosophy

Dr. Petrera believes excellent orthopedic care begins with a strong focus on the patient, the overall care experience and the continuous pursuit of excellence. He and the team at TidalHealth Peninsula Orthopaedic Institute are committed to delivering personalized, high-quality care at every stage of the patient journey.

He works closely with patients to understand their symptoms, lifestyle and goals before developing an individualized treatment plan. His goal is to reduce pain, restore mobility and help patients return to active, fulfilling lives with confidence.

Outside of his work

Dr. Petrera was born in the Bronx and is proud of his family’s journey. His grandfather, for whom he was named, came to the United States in 1919 with a third-grade education. His father grew up in Harlem and became the first member of the family to graduate from college. Dr. Petrera became the second.

He and his wife, Kathy, have four sons. Three are physicians, and the fourth is entering medical school at Temple University. Dr. Petrera considers becoming a physician one of his greatest blessings and is proud that his sons have chosen to follow careers in medicine.

Dr. Petrera has developed a deep connection to the Eastern Shore and appreciates the warmth of the community he serves. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys hunting, boating and spending time in nature. He is also grateful to be part of the faith community at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where his children attended school.
