EMDR therapy available at TidalHealth

Discover the transformative potential of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an innovative therapeutic approach designed to support profound healing without the need for detailed narration or burdensome homework assignments.

EMDR therapy is appropriate for adults and children, and is available through TidalHealth for patients age 14 and older. EMDR employs carefully guided sets of bilateral stimulation — such as eye movements, taps, or sounds — combined with resource-building techniques to foster a sense of safety and calm.

Before beginning EMDR sessions, practitioners skillfully introduce patients to calming strategies, including breathwork, guided imagery, and grounding exercises, empowering them with tools for emotional regulation both in and out of sessions.

During EMDR, patients are gently invited to focus on distressing memories in a controlled, patient-centered manner, likened to watching a scene play out on their own terms. Practitioners facilitate this process with sets of bilateral stimulation, checking in after each set to help patients notice and process their feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. This structured approach allows distress to diminish, paving the way for the integration of positive beliefs and adaptive perspectives.

At the conclusion of each session, practitioners ensure that patients leave feeling stable, centered, and grounded. EMDR’s unique blend of neuroscience and compassionate practice makes it a compelling choice for clinicians dedicated to effective trauma resolution and holistic patient care.
