Electrophysiology

TidalHealth offers comprehensive electrophysiology care, using advanced tools and treatments to manage heart rhythm disorders with understanding and compassion.

At TidalHealth, our electrophysiology specialists are here to help when you are facing issues with your heart's rhythm. Electrophysiology focuses on diagnosing and treating irregular heartbeats, also known as arrhythmias, which happen when there is a problem with the heart's electrical system.

We are proud to offer the only comprehensive electrophysiology (EP) program in the region, using advanced diagnostic tools and treatments to manage heart rhythm disorders. Our team provides a full range of options for diagnosing and managing arrhythmias, giving you more choices to stay healthy and active.

Our Approach to Arrhythmia Treatment
Our team uses imaging technology, ablation, and implanted devices to treat a variety of heart rhythm disorders. Some of the treatments we offer include:

  • Cryoablation for atrial fibrillation (A-Fib)
  • Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs)
  • Implanted event monitors
  • Pacemaker implants and devices for people with heart failure

We have two electrophysiology labs dedicated to diagnosing and treating arrhythmias, offering patients the latest treatment options available. Our team works closely with you and your physician to decide on the best plan to manage your heart rhythm condition.

At TidalHealth, we know these concerns can be worrying. We approach every patient and family with empathy, kindness, and respect, helping you feel understood and supported every step of the way.

What is electrophysiology?
Electrophysiology is the study and treatment of the heart’s electrical system. It focuses on diagnosing and treating irregular heart rhythms, known as arrhythmias. These conditions occur when the electrical signals that coordinate your heartbeats do not function properly.

What are arrhythmias and how are they treated?
Arrhythmias are abnormal heart rhythms that may be too fast, too slow, or irregular. At TidalHealth, our specialists use imaging tools, ablation, and implanted devices to diagnose and manage arrhythmias. Treatments may include:

  • Cryoablation for atrial fibrillation (A-Fib)
  • Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs)
  • Implanted event monitors
  • Pacemaker implants and devices

Why might I be referred to an electrophysiologist?
Your doctor may refer you to one of our electrophysiologists if you have symptoms such as unexplained fainting, palpitations, fluttering in the chest, or if you are known to have or are suspected to have a heart rhythm disorder. Our team will work with you and your doctor to find the best approach for your unique needs.

What can I expect from an electrophysiology procedure?
If you need a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure, our team will explain what to expect every step of the way. We use advanced technology in our electrophysiology labs and work with care and attention to help you feel comfortable and supported throughout your treatment.
