TidalHealth Nanticoke is pleased to announce that Ciara Hynes, RN, of the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), has been selected as its DAISY Award recipient for February 2026.
Hynes was nominated by a patient for her exceptional care:
“I was a patient in TidalHealth Nanticoke's cardiac unit in November. I had the privilege of having Ciara as my nurse before and after my cardiac procedure. I was highly impressed by her professionalism and compassionate approach throughout the experience.
Ciara demonstrated a remarkable level of clinical knowledge and skill, and I appreciated her ability to explain complex medical information. Prior to my procedure, Ciara spent time answering any questions I had and provided emotional support. She expressed empathy and ensured my comfort at all times.
After my procedure, Ciara ensured that I was comfortable. She continually monitored my incision, checked my blood pressure, and asked if I needed anything. I was hungry, and she provided something to eat and drink. She exhibited excellent interpersonal skills, not only with me, but with all of her patients.
Ciara is an outstanding nurse and a valuable asset to TidalHealth and their healthcare team. Her incredible clinical expertise and compassionate patient care are extraordinary qualities. I know she will continue to leave a positive impact on the lives of her patients.”
Hynes was honored with the DAISY Award in a ceremony before her colleagues. She received a certificate commending her for being an extraordinary nurse, and a sculpture called “A Healer's Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, California, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at age 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease.
The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
