Sleep Medicine

If you’re having trouble sleeping or feeling rested, TidalHealth’s sleep medicine team can help diagnose and treat sleep disorders to improve your health and quality of life.

At TidalHealth, we understand that healthy sleep is crucial to your well-being. Many people struggle with sleep issues without realizing it. Untreated sleep disorders can lead to serious health concerns like high blood pressure, heart problems, and a higher risk of accidents at home or on the road. The good news is that most sleep disorders can be diagnosed and managed effectively with the right testing and support.

Our sleep medicine specialists are here to help if you have trouble sleeping, feel tired during the day, or have been told you snore or stop breathing while asleep. We offer thorough evaluations and sleep studies to understand what keeps you from restful sleep. After identifying your needs, our team will work with you to create a care plan tailored to your life.

What We Can Help With

Sleep disorders can affect people of all ages, and symptoms can vary widely. Some common signs of a sleep disorder include:

  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Excessive daytime tiredness
  • Loud snoring or gasping for air during sleep
  • Morning headaches
  • Irritability, trouble focusing, or low energy
  • Waking up often through the night
  • Unusual movements or restlessness during sleep

We also treat children with sleep difficulties, including trouble falling or staying asleep. No matter your age, you don’t have to manage these symptoms alone.

How Our Sleep Medicine Team Can Help

Your care at TidalHealth begins with a discussion about your sleep and health. If a sleep study is needed, we’ll make the process as simple as possible. We offer flexible scheduling options, including studies for those who work nights or have special needs. We also provide home sleep studies if you prefer the comfort of your own bed.

Once your evaluation or sleep study is complete, our team will review the results with you, answer any questions, and discuss your options. Treatments may include lifestyle changes, devices like CPAP for sleep apnea, or other therapies to help you get the rest you need. Our goal is to help you wake up feeling better and more refreshed each day.

How do I know if I have a sleep disorder?
Common signs of a sleep disorder include loud or frequent snoring, trouble falling or staying asleep, feeling overly tired during the day, waking up with headaches, or being irritable and forgetful. If you notice any of these symptoms, consider talking with our team at TidalHealth about your sleep.

What is a sleep study?
A sleep study is a test used to diagnose sleep disorders. During the study, your sleep patterns, breathing, heart rate, and other key signals are monitored. Our sleep centers are open seven nights a week, and we also offer home sleep studies for those who need them.

How do I schedule a sleep study?
To schedule a sleep study, you'll need a referral from your doctor. After we receive it, our TidalHealth staff will contact you to arrange your study at a time that works best for you. We offer specialized testing and can accommodate shift workers or those with special needs.

What happens during a sleep study?
During an overnight sleep study in one of our centers, a sleep technician will monitor your sleep stages, oxygen levels, heart rate, leg movements, breathing, snoring, and body positions. You can move around and get up as needed. The study typically requires at least six hours of recorded sleep.

How are the results shared?
After your sleep study, a specialist certified in sleep medicine will review your results. It generally takes about two weeks to get the results. Your doctor will discuss the findings and your next steps.

What are the treatment options for sleep disorders?
Treatment depends on the diagnosis but may include lifestyle changes, CPAP therapy for sleep apnea, medications, or other therapies. Our team at TidalHealth will work with you to develop a plan that meets your specific needs.

Can I do my sleep study at home?
Yes, some sleep studies can be done at home, especially for patients with schedules that make in-center studies difficult. Our team will guide you through using the equipment and provide clear instructions and support.
