Lung cancer screening
High-risk current or former cigarette smokers can get screened for lung cancer on National Lung Cancer Screening Day — Saturday, Nov. 14 — in Salisbury, Berlin and Seaford.
These Saturday sessions are being added to assist people who might not be able to attend regular weekday screenings but are not free of charge.
Most insurances are accepted, and eligibility requirements will be shared prior to signing up. Those without health insurance coverage are still encouraged to call and speak with a TidalHealth representative, as there may be resources available to help with the cost.
All three events will be held from 8 am to noon and will require registration. For more information or to register, please call 410-543-7006 prior to Nov. 14.
The Saturday screenings will use low-dose computed tomography (CT) technology. CT scanning can detect incredibly small nodules, a possible early indicator of lung cancer, that a traditional chest x-ray might not see.
The CT screenings will be held at:
- TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, 100 E. Carroll St. in Salisbury
- TidalHealth Atlantic, 9733 Healthway Drive in Berlin
- TidalHealth Mears Campus at 100 Rawlins Drive in Seaford
The American Lung Association identifies lung cancer as the number one killer of people in the United States. It claims more lives annually than colon, breast and prostate cancer combined, and those who smoke or have smoked are at higher risk.
Lung cancer screening is offered by TidalHealth and Peninsula Imaging throughout the year. To learn more about the weekday screenings or to register for a weekday screening, please call the TidalHealth Thoracic Oncology Program at 410-543-7012.
