Critical Care Medicine Fellowship

The Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at TidalHealth offers advanced, multidisciplinary training in the management of critically ill patients across diverse clinical environments, including intensive care units and emergency settings. Fellows work closely with experienced physicians and care teams to develop expertise in evidence-based interventions, complex decision-making, and collaborative care delivery.

Our Goal

The goal of the TidalHealth Critical Care Medicine Fellowship is to prepare physicians for independent, competent, and ethical practice as intensivists through comprehensive multidisciplinary training. The program is designed to develop fellows’ clinical judgment, procedural proficiency, leadership abilities, and scholarly engagement necessary to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill patients across diverse healthcare settings. Graduates will be equipped to collaborate effectively within interprofessional teams, contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, and serve as leaders, educators, and advocates for excellence in critical care medicine.

Goal

The goal of the TidalHealth Critical Care Medicine Fellowship program is to train compassionate, ethical, and skilled intensivists who deliver safe, high-quality, and evidence-based care to critically ill and injured patients. Through a multidisciplinary and collaborative learning environment, the program will foster the development of clinical excellence, leadership, and academic inquiry. The program provides a comprehensive clinical and educational curriculum that includes exposure to a wide spectrum of critical care areas, simulation-based training, and progressive autonomy in decision-making and procedural responsibilities. Fellows will be supported by dedicated faculty and interdisciplinary teams as they acquire the knowledge, technical skills, and professionalism necessary for board certification and independent practice. In alignment with our institution’s broader mission to improve the health of the communities we serve, the fellowship emphasizes patient-centered care, service to diverse and underserved populations, and a strong commitment to healthcare equity. Fellows will actively engage in scholarly activity, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety efforts that promote lifelong learning and advance the field of critical care medicine. Upon graduation, fellows will be fully equipped to lead, educate, and contribute meaningfully to healthcare systems and communities, improving patient outcomes and addressing critical health challenges in their local and global environments.

Welcome From Our Program Director 

Welcome to the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Maryland.

Our two-year fellowship, currently accepting one fellow per year, offers comprehensive, hands-on training across our medical ICU and mixed cardiac, neuro, and surgical ICU, with exposure to ECMO, mechanical circulatory support (IABP, Impella), critical care ultrasound, and advanced airway management. Fellows will have the opportunity to rotate through community hospitals to develop the versatility and confidence needed to practice in any setting.

As part of an established Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship, our program is built on a strong academic foundation with dedicated, supportive faculty committed to mentorship and professional growth. With access to an advanced simulation lab and a schedule designed to maximize learning while minimizing burnout, fellows receive well-rounded, personalized training focused on both skill and balance.
