Our Goal
The goal of the TidalHealth Critical Care Medicine Fellowship is to prepare physicians for independent, competent, and ethical practice as intensivists through comprehensive multidisciplinary training. The program is designed to develop fellows’ clinical judgment, procedural proficiency, leadership abilities, and scholarly engagement necessary to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill patients across diverse healthcare settings. Graduates will be equipped to collaborate effectively within interprofessional teams, contribute to quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, and serve as leaders, educators, and advocates for excellence in critical care medicine.
Goal
The goal of the TidalHealth Critical Care Medicine Fellowship program is to train compassionate, ethical, and skilled intensivists who deliver safe, high-quality, and evidence-based care to critically ill and injured patients. Through a multidisciplinary and collaborative learning environment, the program will foster the development of clinical excellence, leadership, and academic inquiry. The program provides a comprehensive clinical and educational curriculum that includes exposure to a wide spectrum of critical care areas, simulation-based training, and progressive autonomy in decision-making and procedural responsibilities. Fellows will be supported by dedicated faculty and interdisciplinary teams as they acquire the knowledge, technical skills, and professionalism necessary for board certification and independent practice. In alignment with our institution’s broader mission to improve the health of the communities we serve, the fellowship emphasizes patient-centered care, service to diverse and underserved populations, and a strong commitment to healthcare equity. Fellows will actively engage in scholarly activity, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety efforts that promote lifelong learning and advance the field of critical care medicine. Upon graduation, fellows will be fully equipped to lead, educate, and contribute meaningfully to healthcare systems and communities, improving patient outcomes and addressing critical health challenges in their local and global environments.

Welcome From Our Program Director
Welcome to the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Maryland.
Choosing a critical care fellowship is more than finding a place to complete two years of training. It is about finding an environment that will challenge you, invest in your growth, and prepare you to lead when patients and teams are facing their most complex moments. At TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, we have built our Critical Care Medicine Fellowship around those goals.
Our two-year program accepts one fellow each year, offering an environment conducive to learning along with individualized mentorship, meaningful clinical responsibility, and balanced training. Fellows train across our medical ICU and combined cardiac, neurologic, and surgical ICU, where they care for high-acuity patients and develop confidence in resuscitation, complex decision-making, and multidisciplinary team leadership. Clinical exposure includes ECMO, mechanical circulatory support (intra-aortic balloon pump), critical care ultrasonography, and advanced airway management. By rotating at community hospitals, fellows will broaden their clinical perspective and become adaptable intensivists who can practice effectively in diverse settings.
As part of an established Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship, the program benefits from a strong academic foundation and faculty deeply committed to teaching. Bedside learning is reinforced through structured education, scholarship, and an advanced simulation lab. Just as importantly, our schedule is designed to support trainee well-being and minimize burnout while ensuring professional growth and development.
