Nephrology Fellowship

TidalHealth is proud to introduce the Nephrology Fellowship, designed to train the next generation of specialists in the diagnosis and management of kidney disease and disorders. This advanced training program will provide fellows with hands-on experience, expert mentorship, and cutting-edge research opportunities.

Our Goal

The TidalHealth Nephrology Fellowship will prepare fellows to deliver patient-centered, high-quality nephrology care to the Delmarva Peninsula and beyond. Fellows will train under board-certified nephrologists, gaining hands-on experience with a wide range of kidney diseases, from chronic kidney disease to dialysis. Autonomy is granted as competency is achieved, ensuring a progressive learning experience. Beyond clinical experience, fellows will have a multitude of opportunities through the TidalHealth Richard A. Henson Research Institute to refine their academic skills and further develop knowledge in the fields of nephrology and medicine. Fellows will have the opportunity to investigate a variety of topics, such as nephrology and the importance of diversity in medicine. TidalHealth will produce well-trained and well-rounded nephrologists who are able and excited to give back to their community, aligning with TidalHealth’s mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.

Welcome From Our Program Director

Welcome to the TidalHealth Nephrology Fellowship!

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the TidalHealth Nephrology Fellowship in Salisbury, Maryland. Our program launched in 2025 and represents the culmination of a shared vision to create a premier academic and clinical training environment for the next generation of nephrologists.

At TidalHealth, we believe that excellence in nephrology education begins with a strong foundation rooted in comprehensive clinical exposure, scholarly inquiry and compassionate patient care. Our fellowship is thoughtfully designed to nurture and develop the full potential of each trainee by offering a balance of academic rigor, hands-on learning and dedicated mentorship.

Throughout the two years of training, our fellows will engage in diverse clinical experiences, including inpatient nephrology, outpatient clinics, dialysis (both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis), interventional nephrology, transplant nephrology and critical care nephrology. These rotations are carefully curated to ensure fellows gain exposure to a wide spectrum of kidney diseases across all stages and clinical settings. In addition, our affiliation with regional transplant centers, including University of Maryland, offers unique opportunities for specialized training in kidney transplantation.

Our faculty is composed of experienced, passionate educators and practicing nephrologists who are deeply committed to the professional and personal growth of each fellow. Our one-on-one mentorship model provides tailored guidance to help fellows reach their individual career goals, whether in academic medicine, clinical leadership or private practice.

We also place a strong emphasis on research and scholarly activity. Fellows will be encouraged and supported to pursue research projects, present at national conferences and contribute to peer-reviewed publications. Our aim is to instill a lifelong passion for inquiry and evidence-based practice.

The educational component of our fellowship includes a robust didactic curriculum, case-based conferences, journal clubs, board review sessions, and participation in regional and national nephrology events.

Above all, our program is built on a culture of respect, collaboration and community. We recognize that training is not just about acquiring knowledge, but also about becoming a well-rounded, resilient and compassionate physician. At TidalHealth, you will find a supportive environment where your growth is prioritized and your contributions are valued.

I warmly invite you to explore all that our program has to offer and to consider joining us at TidalHealth, where we are committed to shaping the future of kidney care — one fellow at a time.

Welcome to an exciting and transformative journey in nephrology.
