TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Emergency Department Expansion

TidalHealth Peninsula Regional is expanding its Emergency Department with a new two-level, 46,000-square-foot observation unit aimed at meeting growing community demand and maintaining safe access to care.

The project will add 40 observation rooms on the first level — 26 with private bathrooms — along with support space and a direct connection to the existing ED. The new unit is expected to begin welcoming patients in late 2027.

Construction will bring temporary traffic and parking changes beginning Feb. 23, 2026. Traffic flow to the ED and the Frank B. Hanna outpatient loop will be altered, and a portion of West Vine Street between Waverly Drive and Patterson Road will be reduced to a single, one-way lane. Vine Street will also face periodic closures from February through early fall 2026.

Hospital officials urge patients and visitors to allow extra travel time, follow posted detours and signage, and use caution when driving or walking on campus. Additional lighting is being installed to improve pedestrian visibility near Vine Street.
