High fever in babies and children
When a child or baby has a high fever, it can be concerning for any parent or caregiver. At TidalHealth, we understand how important it is to recognize when a fever may signal a serious issue that requires immediate attention.
When to Seek Emergency Care
Seek emergency care if your child has:
- A fever in a newborn (less than 3 months old)
- A high fever that does not improve with medicine
- A high fever accompanied by a headache and stiff neck
Fevers in young children can sometimes indicate a serious infection or other condition. If you are ever unsure, calling 911 or going to the nearest emergency department is the safest choice.
What to Expect During Emergency Care
At TidalHealth’s Emergency Department, a triage nurse will assess your child’s symptoms and ensure they receive the appropriate level of care. Our experienced team monitors your child closely and adjusts care as needed, always prioritizing comfort and safety.
