FAQs
TidalHealth is in a rural community. Will I be exposed to a variety of pathology?
With over 11,000 annual procedures performed, residents will gain the in-depth knowledge and skills to be independent surgeons for the community of the Eastern Shore and beyond. In addition, general surgery residents will rotate to the Johns Hopkins Burn Center, University of MD Transplant Center, University of MD Shock Trauma, and Children’s National Medical Center.
How many positions do you fill each year?
The program is approved by the ACGME to accept four PGY-1 categorical and two PGY-1 preliminary slots each year.
When do you review applications?
The General Surgery Residency Program will begin reviewing ERAS applications beginning in October. Invitations to interview will be sent out on an ongoing basis until we have filled all our interview dates.
What research opportunities are available?
The TidalHealth Richard A. Henson Research Institute manages clinical and translational research trials for TidalHealth. General Surgery Residents will have access to an academic library, IRB, data for quality and patient improvement projects, knowledgeable research staff, didactic sessions on how to conduct research, and resources available through the Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network.
