Welcome From Our Program Director
Dear Prospective Residents,
We are excited to introduce the TidalHealth Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program — a forward-looking training experience designed to prepare future leaders in women’s health. Rooted in our expanding health system and commitment to community care, this program invites residents to play an active role in shaping its culture, curriculum, and enduring legacy.
Why TidalHealth
We’re the leading health system on the Delmarva Peninsula, anchored by TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, TidalHealth Nanticoke, and our newest partner site, TidalHealth Atlantic. Together, these hospitals provide comprehensive care to a diverse, largely rural population, giving you exposure to everything from routine deliveries to high-acuity obstetric emergencies and complex gynecologic surgery.
As a resident, you’ll benefit from:
- Robust obstetric volume with more than 2,500 deliveries each year
- Access to Level II NICU care and maternal-fetal medicine specialists
- Broad surgical training including laparoscopic, hysteroscopic, and robotic surgery
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with anesthesia, pediatrics, surgery, and critical care teams
- Dedicated simulation training and hands-on procedural workshops
An education built for you
We’ve intentionally designed our residency to offer personalized mentorship and a supportive environment. Our unique tracking program allows residents to personalize learning starting in PGY-2. Weekly didactics, case-based teaching, and simulation days will prepare you for the CREOG exams and for practice. Through our partnership with the Richard A. Henson Research Institute, you’ll have opportunities to lead quality improvement projects, present at conferences, and publish research that advances women’s health.
Life on the Eastern Shore
Residing here means you can balance rigorous training with a high quality of life. Salisbury and the surrounding region offer:
- A low cost of living and short commutes
- Quick access to Ocean City beaches, the Chesapeake Bay, and scenic outdoor trails
- A friendly, connected community with local markets, festivals and cultural events
- Easy weekend trips to Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia
Be part of something new
Our residency welcomes individuals eager to help shape a developing program rooted in collaboration, curiosity and community impact. We value residents who bring diverse experiences and a dedication to providing outstanding care to the people of the Delmarva Peninsula.
We can’t wait to meet the next generation of skilled, compassionate TidalHealth OB/GYN physicians who are ready to learn and lead.
Warm regards,
Karren Lewis, MD, MPH, FACOG

Mission Statement
The TidalHealth Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program’s mission is to train residents to provide comprehensive, ethical and patient-centered care and become exceptional board-certified physicians in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN). The program will provide residents with a comprehensive educational and clinical curriculum where they will develop OB/GYN knowledge and technical skills, receive exposure to OB/GYN subspecialties, experience simulation-based training, and explore opportunities in scholarly activity and quality improvement projects.
Residents will gain progressive autonomy as they move through their training. After graduation, residents will be prepared to practice independently and provide high-quality care to their patients and community. TidalHealth’s mission is to improve the health of the communities served. This mission will be integrated into the residents’ daily training, as it directly aligns with the program’s mission to train and develop exceptional OB/GYN physicians to better serve their communities.
