On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the City of Seaford acknowledged Dr. Stephen “Steve” Carey's years of dedication and service to the Western Sussex County community by unveiling a sign honoring him above Memorial Drive, a street he drove down countless times on his way to save lives at TidalHealth Nanticoke in Seaford, Del. Current and retired TidalHealth Nanticoke team members and medical staff gathered at the corner of Memorial Drive to celebrate Dr. Carey.

He performed an estimated 36,000 to 40,000 surgeries during his career and served as president of the hospital's medical staff from 2003 to 2004.
Dr. Carey played a vital role in the development of Delaware’s statewide trauma system as a founder of the program and helped bring a comprehensive trauma surgery program to Western Sussex County.
