TidalHealth announced today that it is lifting masking requirements at its hospitals and patient-care facilities following a steady and sustained decline in cases of Influenza A (Flu A), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and COVID-19 since Christmas.
The decision was made after closely monitoring respiratory virus trends within TidalHealth facilities and across the region, which have shown consistent improvement over recent weeks.
“We’ve seen a very encouraging decline in Flu A, RSV, and COVID cases across our hospitals,” said Trudy Hall, MD, Chief Medical Officer at TidalHealth. “This allows us to safely ease masking requirements while continuing to prioritize the health and safety of our patients, staff, and visitors.”
While masking is no longer required in most areas of TidalHealth hospitals and outpatient facilities, individuals may continue to wear masks if they choose, and masks are welcomed and supported.
Visitors who are feeling sick are asked not to visit patients until they are well.
Good hand hygiene, including washing with soap and water, and respiratory etiquette, like covering your cough, remain strongly encouraged.
Certain clinical situations may still require masks based on patient needs or care settings, and we are asking you to provide guidance when necessary.
While masking requirements are being lifted, respiratory viruses have not disappeared and personal responsibility remains important, especially to protect older adults, infants, and those with weakened immune systems.
Thank you to all our team members for your participation, understanding and leadership. We will continue to monitor respiratory virus activity and may adjust policies if conditions change.
