Family Medicine Residency

Curriculum

• Our curriculum is a 13-block schedule in which we balance inpatient and outpatient experiences with a healthy work-life balance.  
• Residents will receive four weeks of vacation each year of training.
• Residents will rotate to the FMP/Continuity Clinic for one half-day per week in PGY-1 and two half-days per week in PGY-2 and PGY-3. In addition, residents will complete a full block in the FMP/Continuity Clinic each year. This equates to a total of 44 weeks in FMP in PGY-1, 46 weeks in FMP in PGY-2 and 44 weeks of FMP in PGY-3.   
• Residents will gain Pediatric Emergency Medicine experience at Nemours Children’s Hospital.   
• Residents will complete Geriatrics at TidalHealth PeninsulaRegional under the supervision of a board-certified geriatrician. During this experience, residents will also rotate to the Alice B. Tawes Nursing and Rehabilitation at TidalHealth McCready Pavilion for experience with nursing home patients. 
  Residents’ OB experiences will be complemented by a Maternal Child Health rotation which includes caring for the prenatal patient as well as mother/child dyad care after birth
• Elective options: Addiction Medicine, Allergy/Immunology, Behavioral Medicine, Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, ENT, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Gynecology, Pain Management, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Infectious Disease, Medical Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pain Management, Practice Management, Population Health, Radiology, Rheumatology, Research, Sleep and Pulmonary Medicine, Sports Medicine, Surgery, Urology and Weight Management. 

• Educate residents using a competency-based curriculum to master family medicine practices.  
• Train residents to have the skills and knowledge needed to provide care in both inpatient and ambulatory settings by cultivating a learning and working environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration and lifelong learning.
• Provide a well-structured curriculum that improves the accessibility and quality of healthcare in the community.  

• Develop stronger and healthier communities through collaboration, advocacy and education.  
• Prioritize the well-being of our residents and faculty members to maintain patient safety, provide quality care, and protect the health of our physicians.

How to apply 

• Applications are coordinated through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All applicants should submit their completed application through ERAS. More information and applications can be found on the ERAS website. The TidalHealth Family Medicine Residency program can be found in ERAS under the ACGME # 1202300001.
• International medical school graduates should look for special instructions or contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates directly at 215-386-5900.

Required Documentation 

• Three letters of recommendation
• Curriculum vitae
• Personal statement
• Dean's letter/Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
• Medical school transcripts
• USMLE/COMLEX scores 

U.S. medical school graduates

• Completion of medical school in four years, or the minimum time required for degree, unless satisfactory extenuating circumstances documented
• No more than one failed attempt on any medical school course or portion of the USMLE or COMLEX 

International medical graduates (IMGs)

• Successful completion of medical education from an accredited medical school
• Certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
• Documentation of United States citizenship, permanent residency or lawful status
• Clinical experience of working in the United States is preferred.
• USMLE CK score minimum 220 with passing on the first attempt is preferred.
• Graduation from medical school within the last five years — if more than five years, must provide documentation of proven clinical work
