Family Medicine Residency

The Family Medicine Residency at TidalHealth offers broad, hands-on training to prepare physicians for comprehensive primary care practice. Our program emphasizes continuity of care, preventive medicine, and community-focused health, with diverse clinical experiences across inpatient, outpatient, and specialty settings.

Our Goal

The TidalHealth Family Medicine Residency is dedicated to training phenomenal family physicians who will provide the highest quality of patient care in their communities. By integrating applied research, ongoing scholarly activities and practical experiences, our program equips residents to address current and future healthcare challenges. It offers comprehensive education, featuring a balance of inpatient and ambulatory settings, emphasizing preventative medicine and maintaining work-life balance. Residents will be prepared for independent practice, offering full-spectrum, equitable family medicine while addressing social determinants of health. Faculty members are committed to emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning and upholding our mission and values, striving to positively impact the communities we serve through a focus on quality, service and community.

Wellness, Salary, and Benefits

At TidalHealth, we are committed to supporting our residents both professionally and personally. Our program offers competitive salary and comprehensive benefits, along with dedicated wellness resources designed to promote balance, resilience, and overall well-being. From structured wellness initiatives to financial support and professional development opportunities, we strive to create an environment where residents can thrive throughout their training.

Welcome From Our Program Director

Welcome to the TidalHealth Family Medicine Residency program! Congratulations on progressing to this exciting stage of your medical education and thank you for taking the time to visit our website.

Our program is a newly accredited 4-4-4 program with our inaugural class starting in July 2025. We are supported by a program director, associate program director, program coordinator, four core faculty physicians, 24 general faculty members and a well-established hospital system that dates back to 1897.

A few unique aspects of our program include:

Our commitment to having our residents board certified in Lifestyle Medicine prior to graduation, as well as training our residents to treat patients holistically. To support this, our plans for our residency clinic include a community kitchen for nutrition lectures, community garden, dietitian, behaviorist, social services specialist and pharmacist.

Our dedication to individualizing resident education with more one-on-one teaching opportunities via a large faculty-to-resident ratio of more than 7:1 for the inaugural class and 2:1 at full complement.

Our commitment to resident procedural competency and comfort via regular sessions at our multi-million-dollar, state-of the-art TidalHealth Center for Training and Simulation.

Our support for research at the TidalHealth Richard A. Henson Research Institute, through which we collaborate with Johns Hopkins.

Our dedication to resident, faculty and staff wellness with wellness sessions incorporated in our didactics, as well as our biannual retreats. Our primary location on the Eastern Shore of Maryland near award-winning beaches, the beautiful Chesapeake Bay and multiple national parks further supports our healthy lifestyle. Having large metropolitan cities, such as Washington D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia, located a few hours away is also convenient and provides our residents with unique opportunities to participate in advocacy experiences.

The TidalHealth Family Medicine Residency aims to deliver an exceptional educational experience that equips residents with the knowledge and skills required to become compassionate and proficient family medicine physicians, dedicated to delivering the highest quality of patient care, safety and professionalism. Our program is committed to keeping pace with the latest educational techniques and technologies to meet the needs of its residents while promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment that values diversity, respect and teamwork. Our ultimate goal is to produce family medicine physicians who are well-prepared to meet the current and future healthcare challenges of our communities.

As a newly accredited program, we are looking for highly motivated physician leaders from diverse backgrounds to be active members of our inaugural class. After living and developing relationships in our wonderful community during residency, we hope our graduates choose to stay as highly respected pillars of our community.

I hope you consider joining our program and being a key member of our team as we build this beautiful legacy.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Katherine Goth, MD
