Kids helping kids: A tradition of giving back

As the holiday season approaches, the Salisbury School community comes together for one of its most cherished traditions: Give and Receive Day. This year, Lower School students partnered with Upper School students in a meaningful collaboration.

The annual event is a chance for students, staff, and families to reflect on their blessings and spread holiday joy. The spirit of giving takes center stage as students participate in a hands-on way, supporting local organizations and healthcare heroes who make a difference in our community.

This year, we at TidalHealth and the TidalHealth Foundation are honored to be one of the chosen recipients, all capped off by a visit to the Foundation’s Giving House in Salisbury on Dec. 19, when students and teachers dropped off a “bus load” of toys.

Third graders collected donations for the Wyatt's Warriors Foundation, which provides care bags for the parents of kids receiving care in the hospital. Fourth graders gathered toys for TidalHealth’s Brooke's Toy Closet, which provides toys to children visiting any of our three emergency departments or staying on our pediatric units. Ninth and tenth graders created Nurse Care Packages, filled with items to support TidalHealth’s hardworking nursing team during the busy holiday season.

"The holiday season is a time to reflect on what we have, and to give what we can to others,” said Jessica Hales, TidalHealth Foundation President and the health system’s Chief Philanthropy Officer. “Through this long-cherished tradition, Salisbury School students experience the value of empathy and the joy of helping those in need. We look forward to sharing with them in the joy these donations will bring to Brooke’s Toy Closet, our youngest patients and our dedicated nursing staff."
