TidalHealth has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for several disease-specific services at its hospitals in Seaford, Del. and Salisbury, Md. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
Disease-specific certifications were earned in the Spine Program, Advanced Total Hip and Knee and Advanced Primary Stroke at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. The team at TidalHealth Nanticoke earned disease-specific certification in Advanced Primary Stroke. Certification demonstrates TidalHealth’s continuous compliance with Joint Commission performance standards.
“Our healthcare teams are pleased to have again received these disease-specific certifications from The Joint Commission, the premier healthcare quality improvement and accrediting body in the nation,” said Steve Leonard, Ph.D., MBA, FACHE, President and CEO of TidalHealth. “This re-accreditation validates our quality of care, and it also challenges us to continue to improve and heighten our standards of care for patients in our region, which ultimately improves the health of the communities we serve.”
The certification recognizes healthcare organizations, including TidalHealth, that provide clinical programs across the continuum of care for the areas in which they recognized. The certification evaluates how organizations use clinical outcomes and performance measures to identify opportunities to improve care, as well as to educate and prepare patients and their caregivers for discharge.
TidalHealth underwent rigorous, unannounced onsite reviews recently at its Salisbury and Seaford hospitals. During the visits, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards including program management, supporting self-management, and delivering and facilitating clinical care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews with TidalHealth leadership and team members.
“These disease-specific certifications recognize health care organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” said Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, Chief Operating Officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and Chief Nursing Executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend TidalHealth for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for their spine, stroke and hip and knee replacement patients.”
