The Kim and Evans Family Foundation, Inc. recently presented the TidalHealth Foundation with a $10,000 check in support of the Graduate Medical Education campaign, naming an exam room in TidalHealth’s Edward Q. Wilgus Community Clinic on E. Church St. in Salisbury, Md.
The clinic and primary care practice, which is being constructed on the site of the former Hotel Esther, will serve a dual purpose as home base for TidalHealth’s resident physicians who are specializing in internal medicine. It is expected to accommodate between 12,000 and 15,000 visits per year, with an anticipated opening later in 2024.
TidalHealth Nanticoke physicians contributed $5,000 which was then matched by the Kim and Evans Family Foundation to dedicate an exam room in the name of Khalid Manzoor, MD. Dr. Manzoor, a hospitalist at the Seaford, Del. hospital, died unexpectedly in 2022 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
By 2034, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) anticipates doctor shortages of between 38,000 and 124,000 as an aging physician population nears retirement. This is why TidalHealth has launched its GME program to include residency and fellowship training programs. The TidalHealth Foundation’s “Spark” campaign focuses on raising the funds necessary to establish and support GME at TidalHealth. This $5 million campaign is based on a bold and collaborative two-prong strategy: TidalHealth will provide a space for residents to learn and treat patients and at the same time create a pipeline of physicians who want to train here, live here, and love this community just as we do.
Philanthropy is the spark that will accelerate this project and ignite an entirely new future. Learn how you can support our Spark campaign.
