Overview
Palliative Care is medical care focused on relieving pain, symptoms, and stress of a serious illness – whatever the diagnosis.
This service improves the lives of patients and families by helping people live comfortably and providing the best possible quality of life.
When you are facing a serious illness, you need answers, relief, expertise and support. TidalHealth’s Palliative Care team works closely with your primary doctor to provide:
- Expert treatment of pain and symptoms
- Close communication and compassionate care
- Help in navigating the healthcare system
- Guidance with difficult treatment choices
- Emotional and spiritual support for you and your family
The Palliative Care team is made up of physicians, advanced practice professionals, nurses, social workers and chaplains who work together to focus on difficult decision-making and symptom management. The team respects the values and beliefs of patients and their families, as well as the realities of the clinical situation. Using this collaborative team approach, we make a plan of care for each patient. The team is also involved in end-of-life cancer care research so objective outcomes data can be used to improve quality of life for advanced cancer patients.
Palliative Care consultations are available for any inpatient or outpatient with a cancer diagnosis being treated at TidalHealth’s Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute.
